Cultural Study Tour

CULTURAL STUDY TOUR

St. Gabriel International School provides the unique opportunity for a cross-cultural study tour. Our sister school, Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS), challenges students to take on classes under the world-renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) program). Participating students ultimately develop independence and gain valuable cross-cultural experience.

OVERSEAS CAMPUS

MXIS serves the educational needs of students from Pre- K to Grade 12. Located in Xiamen suburb and 10 minutes away from the city, it is easily accessible from all locations within the metropolis. The school’s facility includes classrooms, a multi-purpose gymnasium, science laboratories, library, Design laboratory, Visual Arts Studio, Music Room, mini-golf-course, canteen and two swimming pools.

WORLD-CLASS CURRICULUM

The IB organization only authorizes select schools to offer its highly respected and rigorous programs of international education. At its core, IB aims to develop open-minded youth who, in recognizing our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, are driven to create a better world.

AVENUE FOR SELF-DISCOVERY

Beyond the classroom, participating students experience the art and historical scene of Xiamen on cultural tours. Students also learn Chinese language and culture not only from their classes, but from their new classmates and activities like Model United Nations. Our alumni have always come home with new friends, stories, and lessons to be cherished from the vibrant city of Xiamen.

EXCHANGE STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

“My first experience of riding an airplane for a trip to Xiamen on a Study Tour in MXIS gave birth to my enthusiasm towards Aeronautics. A month after, the landing approach back home sealed in my heart this new passion.

I graduated from SGIS with flying colors and took up BS in Aeronautical Engineering at the Philippine State College of Aeronautics. I got awarded with distinction by PRC for ranking 9th place in the National Aeronautical Engineering Licensure Exams in 2014.

Started my career in 2015 with industry elites in aircraft and engineering & maintenance of an airline. By 2019, I took on a higher role to manage CAMO activities and MRO, eventually being appointed to manage the whole operations and business of an aviation training company.”

Engr. John Kevin Dizon, 2008 Exchange Student

“One of my most momentous experiences as an SGIS student was the international student tour program back in 2014, wherein our batch was selected for the opportunity to visit Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS), SGIS’ sister school in Xiamen, China. Here we were able to fully immerse ourselves with students of various nationalities and cultural backgrounds, and experience a week in the life of an international student in China. We got to bring our traditional Pandanggo sa Ilaw performance with us and performed it during their United Nations Program, join the school’s Halloween party, attend day-to-day classes, and even joined an interschool volleyball tournament with the MXIS students. Furthermore, as a batch, it gave us an opportunity to bond with fellow classmates and teachers as we toured the famous sites in Xiamen together, such as Tong-An, Zhong San Lu, and the Twin Pagoda Towers.”

Danielle Van Soto, 2014 Exchange Student

“Study tours are the highlights of my student life as a Gabrielite. I have participated in study tours several times and each trip is different from another. Establishing friendships with international students and experiencing the beauty of a different culture allowed me to enjoy the unfamiliar. But, above anything else, it opened my mind to the world beyond the four corners of the classroom. I would pay for another chance to relive the moments I shared with my fellow Gabrielites. Mr. and Mrs. Go, as well as Sir Chris, are to be thanked for the numerous opportunities they have provided me. What I learned from these trips will certainly be relevant as I enter college and eventually, as I find my career path.”
